Her portfolio includes the search and selection of world-class executive and non-executive leaders for pioneering and enterprising organisations in the public and private sectors. She has worked with world leaders with a background in media, technology, business, politics, law, finance, marketing and communications, local and central government as well as research institutes and universities.
Baljit is a governing board member of Coventry University, contributing to the Human Resources and Equalities and Diversity Committees. She has a BA in History/Politics, an MA in Gender and International Development from the University of Warwick and a PhD, ‘Technics, Law and Difference’, from the University of London. Baljit is a trained WAVE assessor.
Peter Ward is a senior associate consultant at BD Search and Selection. He is completing his doctoral studies at Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick. His research into Sub-Saharan health supply chains lies at the cutting-edge interface of service systems and supply chain research. His former career, at IBM, included a range of global technical sales and consultancy roles concerned with applications of informational technology and software solutions. Peter formed an international IBM volunteer team to address poverty in sub-Saharan Africa and was part of IBM’s first wave volunteer team to address poverty in Kenya and Ghana. As well as holding a BSc in Genetics from Leeds University, Peter is a personal skills coach.
Garry is an associate at BD Search and Selection. He brings over 20 years’ experience of working across the energy and CleanTech sectors and in this time has worked with a diverse range of entrepreneurs, start-ups, researchers, private investors and public sector funders. Garry is a high profile industry professional with widely recognised technical and commercial acumen and a substantive track record in the commercialisation of technologies. He has undertaken a wide range of assignments including the provision of: interim leadership and management services during the foundation of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult Company; technical due diligence services to venture capital investors; reviews of investment cases, project and programme proposals, progress and final reports for range of clients; support to establish a collaborative network in Northern Ireland focusing on developing intelligent energy systems proposals; advice to the Welsh Government as it developed an offshore renewables innovation implementation strategy; advice to university researchers and the research councils; and direct mentoring of a number of small, early stage, technology businesses
Garry’s former role, as Technology Director for the Carbon Trust, included responsibility for developing and delivering their innovation support programmes, playing an active role in establishing a number of companies and delivered technical and commercial advice to early stage companies and investors.
Garry has served as an adviser to the Research Councils on the UK Energy Research centre, on high level steering groups for the RCUK sustainable power generation (Supergen) and End Use Energy Demand (EUED) Programmes; the Advisory Committee for the Welsh Low Carbon Research Institute; the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Matrix (Foresight) Panel; the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation & Growth Team; the IEA Expert Group on Accelerating Energy Innovation; and was an invited reviewer for IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy.
Garry holds a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from The University of Leicester.
A Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Robert has worked in assessing candidates for appointment to senior roles in the public, private and not for profit sectors since the mid-1980s. For central government he has undertaken assessments for the Senior Civil Service, covering a wide range of departments for roles up to Permanent Secretary level. He has also undertaken work for comparable roles in a number of government agencies, including the Improvement and Development Agency and the Technology Strategy Board (Now Innovate UK) and the NHS. Further afield in the public sector he has been involved in the selection of chief executives for several London Boroughs and other local authorities. In the education field he has undertaken assessments for a range of universities and FE colleges as well as for the Learning and Skills Improvement Service. In the private sector he has recently worked as a coach to senior management in an FTSE 100 company and in connection with a senior women’s leadership programme for an international pharmaceutical firm. Prior to that he worked with clients in industries from engineering and banking to retail. He has undertaken senior level assessments for charities including the British Red Cross Society and Water Aid.
His early career was in the Ministry of Defence, where he was involved in research on aircrew selection. After some years with central responsibility for assessment at ICL he joined the American Gallup Organization. He was MD of their UK selection company for several years and later was Director of Management Review and Assessment at KPMG. He has worked with psychometrics and assessment centre technology for many years. His experience has been captured in five books.
David Gourlay is Associate Director at BD Search. He has worked across the UK and Asia Pacific markets with a focus on Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Local Government and Central Government leadership. His expertise lies in search and selection, assessment and management consultancy, specialising in the design and implementation of organisational improvement and business excellence strategies.
Jackie has over 25 years search and recruitment experience. Over the years she has successfully delivered searches across multiple sectors for organisations that range in size from the world’s largest to start-ups. She has worked across all functions in the commercial environment, has delivered searches in the public sector and has also worked for educational/charitable organisations. She has placed candidates into highly specialised technical roles and into senior management posts including NED’s and advisors. Her skills tend to be utilised for specialist or complex assignments that are strengthened by her substantial network and her ability to quickly get to the ‘right’ people.
She has worked extensively in international markets both remotely from the UK and for a period of 6 years based in Asia Pacific in Hong Kong. This adds an extra dimension to her ability to add value to any recruiting process.
